The Troy Movie and its Historical Blunders
The acclaimed Troy movie, with its stunning 175 million dollars budget, raised a lot of interest for the actual history of the Greek city Troy. And, as history has a tendency to repeat itself, this is not the first time this happened: the epic poem the Iliad was composed some 400 years after the actual events; during Roman times, emperor Augustus was so interested in the Trojan war that he founded a new city, called Ilium, on the presumed site of Troy, and in the 19th century a German archeologist named Schliemann captured the world’s attention by claiming to have unearthed the real Troy along with some artifacts and jewelry that might have been worn by Helen herself.
